Congdon’s After Dark to Open Memorial Day Weekend

WELLS, ME – Congdon’s After Dark will kick off its sixth season on Thursday, May 26th with more than 30 different food trucks scheduled to serve at the popular food truck park over the course of the year.

New England’s first food truck park, Congdon’s After Dark, is located outside Congdon’s Doughnuts on Route One in Wells, ME.  The park hosts up to 10 food trucks in the evenings from May until October and features a Maine-centric craft beer garden, live music, fundraisers, car shows, and children’s entertainment.

“We’re so excited to get going again,” said Gary Leech, who owns and operates Congdon’s with his wife Diane and their daughter Jillian Shomphe. “This will be the first season since COVID began where there aren’t a lot of travel restrictions in place, so it will be good to see some of the people who haven’t been able to visit us in a while.”

More than 30 food trucks are scheduled to join the park for the 2022 season.  Most of the vendors will be familiar to returning guests, but there will also be several new visiting trucks, including The Gyro Stop (Greek food), Pam & Fam’s Forkin Good Grub (comfort food), BBQ Betty’s (barbeque), The Traveling Foodie (elevated comfort food), Maddie’s Acai Bowls (smoothies/acai bowls), Outpost by Northern Union (global inspired, local ingredients), Coppa Magica Gelato (gelato), and Hattapon’s Thai Kitchen (Thai food).

Congdon’s will also open its new pizza kitchen, Park Pizza, which will be located next to the Beer Garden.

Other trucks include seafood, burgers, gourmet french fries, Italian, grilled cheese, crepes, Italian sandwiches, Caribbean, meatballs, barbecue, wraps/salads, Jamaican, Mexican, Cajun/creole, and more.  The food trucks rotate throughout the season, so the lineup is different every night.

“There’s something for everyone. Add the music and a few drinks, and it’s like a little street party every night,” said Leech. “It’s a lot of fun.”

The park’s Beer Garden will continue to feature its “Maine Menu,” with dozens of rotating craft beers from Maine breweries, including two made with Congdon’s doughnuts and served exclusively at Congdon’s After Dark. Barreled Souls Brewing Company, in Saco, brews three different stouts with apple, blueberry, and maple bacon fritters and Mast Landing Brewing Company, in Westbrook, brews Honey Dip Blonde, a blonde ale made with Congdon’s famous honey dip doughnuts.

Weekly car shows and fundraisers will return again this season in late-June.  “Tithing Tuesdays” take place each week from June to August, with a new nonprofit receiving 10% of revenue from the food trucks each week. The Classic Car Cruise-ins feature dozens of classic cars from Maine Coastal Cruisers each Monday beginning June 20th.

On June 5th, the park will once again host “Trucks & Pups,” a fundraiser for the Animal Welfare Society in Kennebunk, ME after a two-year hiatus due to COVID-19. The event will feature giveaways and free items from New England Coffee and Tito’s Handmade Vodka. Leashed pets are encouraged to attend!

Guests will now be able to utilize Congdon’s indoor seating and bathrooms again this season. Indoor facilities were closed to the public in 2020 and 2021.

Each night the food trucks and beer garden will be open 4-8 p.m. with some trucks staying open until 9 or 10 p.m. depending on the turnout. There is plenty of parking and seating available onsite.

Guests are encouraged to go to the park’s website or social media pages for schedule details and to see the daily truck lineup.

The park is pet-friendly (on leashes) and has several trucks that are able to accommodate most dietary restrictions (please check the food truck lineup before arriving).

The park will be open Thursday through Sunday from May 26th to June 16th, when daily service will begin and run until September 4th.  The park will then be open on weekends until closing for the season on October 9th.
