It is with great sadness that we announce this will be the last weekend Congdon’s will be open until the coronvirus pandemic has subsided. It has become clear that despite the enhanced sanitation and safety practices we have implemented, every interaction with another person presents risk to our staff. We consider our staff part of our family and cannot bear the thought of something happening to them or their families. Right now, everyone is healthy. We want to keep it that way.
The last few weeks have been as inspiring as they have been frightening. More than 3,500 vehicles have visited our drive-thru during that time, often going 40 vehicles deep and lining up far down Route 1. Many waited 45 minutes or more. But the most amazing part was not the incredible level of support shown for our little family business―it was the love shown by members of our incredible community to their neighbors that left us in awe.
More than 150 toilet paper rolls were donated by our guests and distributed to those in need (beyond 300 of our own rolls). Approximately 100 homemade facemasks were dropped off at our drive-thru and sent to hospitals in need. Dozens of vehicles paid for the vehicle behind them in the queue. Several even dropped off snacks and meals for our hardworking crew.
Beyond that, we heard countless stories about people being kind to one another and spreading love. That is why we love this community. And it deeply saddens us that we will no longer be able to be a resource to the community.
We want to thank all of you who visited over the last few weeks or who wrote to us on social media to show support for what we were trying to do. And thank you to all of health care workers, first responders, pharmacy and grocery store works, and everyone who is keeping our communities functioning in these difficult times. But mostly thank you to our amazing staff – you’re truly the best Maine has to offer.
We will remain open from Thursday to Sunday (6 a.m. to 2 p.m.) this week, so please come by if you can. When we open again is unclear, but we will be ready to go as soon as it is safe to do so. Congdon’s After Dark food trucks park will also be up and ready to rock as soon as we can. Please continue to keep an eye on our social media and website, Congdons.com and CongdonsAfterDark.com, for further updates.
Please take care of yourself and your loved ones. And to the extent possible, take care of your neighbors. Even if it’s just reaching out to check in. We’re all in this together and will overcome. Be well.
